REVEALED: The Mackay home ranked with Australia’s best

IT’S safe to say Mackay’s construction industry has hit a rough patch in the past several years but there’s a glimmer of “light at the end of tunnel”.

An award winning house in Eimeo has been chosen as one of Australia’s best.

The three-storey, multi-million dollar home is being featured in Abode TV’s Best Houses Australia, and videographer/ producer Dan Takle said he was extremely impressed with the location and design.

“The views are spectacular for this property which was a major drawcard in choosing this house,” Mr Takle said.

“The architecture is pretty decent, as are the finishes in the interiors. I can’t see any faults.

“I’ve seen over 400 houses and I can say that this is up there with some of the best I’ve seen.”

Featuring four bedrooms, three bathrooms, two powder rooms, a media room, rumpus room, a butler’s pantry, a whiskey cellar, a private gym, pool, multiple decking areas, a wood-fired pizza oven, and almost 360 degree views from the top floor, the property took out two Mackay Master Builders awards last year, including House of the Year.

Custom-built by Urban Trend Construction, the design phase provided an extra challenge due to the large sloping site.

Interior designer Meg Mill said despite needing to be a bit more creative in their approach, they were able to create something more than was expected.

“When the client approached Urban Trend originally, they actually wanted an investment property,” Ms Mill said.

“As the job went on, they found they really loved the home they were building and subsequently found that it was their dream home.

“It’s the first property we’ve had featured on Abode TV, so it’s pretty exciting for us.”

The entire property took about three years to design and build, with an estimated total cost of more than $1.5m

Since building the property, Urban Trend Construction owner Ken Ogilvie said there had been increasing interest in their work, and there were positive signs for construction in Mackay.

“With our three award winners this year, they all came through this house before signing up,” Mr Ogilvie said.

“The client has been extremely supportive of us; whenever we’ve needed someone to come through to show them what we’ve done, they’ve always opened their doors for us.

“There seems to be interest at the moment and I think in another couple of months, after Christmas, we’ll see a lot more people wanting to build homes coming forward.”
