Coronavirus charity appeal: Help for parents with house full of hungry children | News



After the schools closed and families were confined to their homes, Joeline Walker, a mother of five, saw her gas bill double and food costs increase dramatically.

“We are a working household and don’t have the spare money to accommodate if something changes,” she said.

During the week Mrs Walker, 36, looks after her family and teaches her children at home, while her husband works. At weekends she continues her job as a support worker.

“It’s hard. My children are eating me out of house and home. There are no savings, you live on what you have. We are struggling. I’ve applied for a hardship loan but I’ve not heard back.” Mrs Walker had been waiting outside a Family Action food club at a Sure
