BREAKING: KidsFest and Millstone Festival canceled | News

In the interest of public safety, officials with the city of Richmond have made the difficult decision to cancel their KidsFest and Millstone Festival, which were originally slated for the fall.

The Millstone Festival, which was to be held on Saturday, October 3, was going to be the inaugural event with plans of it becoming an annual fall festival in downtown Richmond which the commission and mayor were all looking forward to.

“We are very disappointed the we have to postpone the first ever Millstone Festival scheduled for October 2020,” City Manager Rob Minerich said. “The mayor, commissioners, Parks Department leadership and myself all agree that with the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, the health and safety of our community is priority.

“The majority of annual festivals across the state have been canceled and it’s the right decision. I want to thank our committee members who have worked so hard to plan this event and we look forward to having this inaugural event in October 2021.”

KidsFest was scheduled to be held on Saturday, September 12, at Irvine-McDowell Park. This year would have been the event’s 20th year anniversary, a release announcing the closure stated.

The Richmond Parks and Recreation Department hopes to offer modified and socially distanced activities in lieu of the traditional event. Details on those plans will be announced as they are finalized.

Vendors who have applied to participate in the festival will be notified and refunded any deposits that have been made.
